Limerence (Poem-19)

An Alien's Message to Earth

[Extra post, theme-interval]

If you think this lockdown hasn't been crazy enough, you're right. I had a zoom call with this alien yesterday and managed to ask it a few questions. I think you should read one particular answer it gave me....I asked it,

"What are a few things you've always wondered about us humans?"

I managed to write down its answer....here's a summary:

"I’m PRJ-11, a resident of Planet-C41 from the Stellar galaxy, and I’ve been studying all sorts of planets my entire life. One particular planet that has never seemed to leave my mind is planet Earth. It’s one of the few planets that allows and sustains life, and is part of the solar system sector.  It has water, it has a life-supporting atmosphere, and its beings are fairly intelligent, although there are a lot of things they do that leave me quite puzzled.

For one, they have every possible resource required to live and survive, unlike most planets in this universe. However, one probe drone we sent to their planet revealed that they felt that they were in need of more resources. Earth is divided into many small landmasses, and each one is given a unique name, making it a “country”. Some of these “countries” are allies, and some of them are at constant wars for resources. The Earthlings are very queer people…they often seem to ignore the fact that they would never require resources if all these countries were united. These wars in fact lead to more depletion of their resources. I really wonder why they ignore this truth.

One very good thing about Earth, currently, is that they still have so many scenic places on the planet. There are so many preserved natural monuments that still have nature’s touch to them. They still have trees! Trees are the rarest organisms in the universe, and Earth has trillions of them! However, there is another thing they do that really confuses me. They pollute their environment each day! It’s a shame to see them do this, because my planet did it too. And now it’s a technologized wasteland. We may have advanced and technologized amenities, but we don’t have nature’s gifts anymore. I wonder how they plan to preserve them.

Another interesting thing these humans do is that they save and build nuclear bombs and nuclear technology. Apparently, these bombs are stored for potential wars that could threaten a country. What they fail to realise is that these bombs will backfire on them as when they use them, their planet will get damaged, which will make them very susceptible to foreign attacks. In fact, since they’re at war so often, I can bet that my planet could beat them single-handedly right now. We need the resources anyways, and they aren’t making much use of them. I wish I could tell them this so they could improve their ways."

Now look, I didn't reveal that I am a human to it....I wanted a very honest answer.

So yeah, in case you didn't know, I'm an Earthling, and these points leave me confused too!

False Absolution

“Every one is really responsible to all men for all men and for everything.” - Fyodor Dostoyevsky Rafe boarded the train just before the compartment doors shut. He breathed a sigh of relief, but only momentarily, and hurried further to find the debriefed compartment. This time, unlike his previous assignments, not only did Rafe not know the face of his target, but he was also late. The target was to get off at the next station, which was only thirty-four minutes away. The odds were against him, and he was not very happy about it.  Having a rather modest, yet relatively respectable record of eight accomplished assignments, with no breaches, if Rafe were to botch this particular mission, he wouldn't be spared from being treated as a beginner's luck-riding rookie. His promotion being on the line certainly alleviated none of this pressure. Compartment 38...40...and there, Rafe reached the 42nd compartment, as mentioned in his briefing, with thirty minutes left. Rafe scanned his vic...

Diadem of Dust (Poem-18)

"The greatest victory is that which requires no battle." - Sun Tzu This part of the forest is Much too quiet tonight To the majestic old noctuid, though, clinging on to life, It's no new sight. It rests near a pinecone, on a tall tree branch As usual, and waits for its Instincts to drive it to Claim morsels that may fit. Below its branch,  Moonlight glinting in its eyes, A young wild rat emerges from the bushes and Out of hunger, sighs. The pinecone quickly senses  Something off, however, And truly so, because it sees, staring back, A pair of red eyes quiver. The wild rat makes its way over A carelessly thrown matchbox  In dry litter, and slowly and steadily Up the tree, to the scared pinecone it walks. He triumphantly places his grown nails on The ill fated pinecone, but just over it He sees that, quite to his pleasure A little beyond him, an old moth patiently sits. Greed manifests  As he drools onto his paws, And he decides to spare the pinecone; He gently lets it...

Dead-ja Vu

"What are we, if not characters, from one story or another, playing our part, knowingly or unknowingly, willingly or unwillingly" - Sandip Khade You know how people get 'kicks' out of doing something daring, say, over-speeding on their bikes, or breaking dress codes, purposely attempting to get away with something illegal, etc.? Well, and I don't mean to sound like that guy , I've always gotten a kick out of giving to the needy; this could manifest in the form of giving money to the traffic signal dwellers, small community charity contributions, the monthly blood drive, or buying your practically broke friend his favorite energy drink when you sense a potential 'head-butt alert!' conversation vibe in the air. I groaned when I realized it's one of those days, and walked into our PG hostel's canteen area.  Most of our guy-classmates stay at this PG, since it's pretty close, and dirt cheap for its surprisingly un-pathetic living conditions. It...
