False Absolution

A story to some...but a future to all

Hello Humans! I am Splash. I have to explain everything in the nick of time! Unfortunately, time doesn't grow on trees...and even if it did...we don't currently have any! There is huge chaos...destruction...scarcity and much more! I will soon run out, so let me do this fast!

This is your near future, a couple of years from now. The human race is facing a lot of calamities. This is due to Global Warming, a consequence resulting because of unwise decisions of humans. People have been struck by shock very late, but you can still save yourselves! First, let me tell you a story. A story to help you understand. A story, to help you get your life back...

A FEW CENTURIES AFTER FORMATION OF PANGAE, THE AGE OF DINOSAURS

This is Splash, again. This story takes place a million decades, before your very existence. The time of dinosaurs, a myth to your current world, but an age of miracles and peace. Dinosaurs were poor, calm and innocent creatures. Sure, they fought for hunger, the very base of their vast civilization.
But they never harmed other creatures, not even a bit.

This resulted in our friendship- water bodies and dinosaurs. This formed a sense of symbiosis, we respected them, as did they do the same. As days passed, we came closer. We provided them with water to hydrate them, and they promised to keep us clean and safe. This went on for years and years, to go on.

But a few years later...something apart from our routine, occurred. The sky darkened. Clouds thudded. Lightning struck. And a spaceship landed on Pangae.

Everyone turned hostile against the spaceship, and was about to charge towards it. But the spaceship produced a sound, a voice letting us know that it had come in peace. Then the doors opened, disclosing a green creature come out and set foot on land. An alien.

The alien presented its matter. The planet on which they lived, Mercury, was coming closer to the sun. If this continued longer, aliens would perish. We listened to them and realized that if we helped them then we would be universally blessed and would be famous. We decided to help them.

It would take us about 4 months to reach mercury. We bid the dinosaurs farewell and took off in the alien spaceship. 4 months later, we reached. The sun sure was hot, so we decided to destroy it. We sent some water rivers towards the sun....and none of them made it back! They evaporated before touching the sun. We tried doing everything possible but, even after 3 months we couldn't make any progress.

After many months, we decided to help the aliens abandon the planet and settle on Mars. The thing is aliens ate moist soil. So we kept some of our water into the core of Mars, to keep the aliens well nourished. We partied for many weeks after that, as the aliens didn't know how to thank us! But among all the excitement, we forgot about the dinosaurs!

Immediately, we made haste to Earth at full speed....as the dinosaurs had been without us for about a year and a half! As soon as we entered the atmosphere, we realized that we were too late. The dinosaurs had perished, they were extinct. We all felt bad, and promised to make sure we never let the next creatures die because of us.

That was the story. Now I don't expect you to make a stupid movie on this for your stupid money, no.
I told you this story for a reason. Now, substitute yourselves with the water bodies, the aliens as your stupid, meaningless desires and the dinosaurs as you, water and plants and animals. See? We behaved selfishly, but we promised not to let you all die.

So what are you waiting for? Save water, plants and animals! Not because I have told you so, but because of your heart and spirit of humanity. I can't do much now. We will soon die, but if you listen to me, we might have a chance. So farewell for now, and see you in the not so distant future.

As the story I narrated was only a story to some, but a future to all.

  1. Very well written! Good imagination! Keep writing on such causes which will help everyone, especially the younger generation realise the importance of nature. This is an interesting way to reach out to kids too.

"A wounded animal will bite and claw." -Mimi Matthews I'm running as fast as I can. All I know about where I'm headed is that it's far from here; far away from that house. Far from those four walls of suffocating hell, far from those dreadful needles and the shimmering acids that followed... And certainly far from him. It's easy to lose track of time when you're kept in a square cell, far into the woods, cut off from the rest of the townsfolk and the diurnal village affairs. I wondered if my friend Polly was looking for me, determined to set me free. She probably was, given that I'd do the same for her. My freedom, or what minuscule tinge was left of it, never exceeded the dining hall of that house. He'd kept me locked in that room, with a bucket, a pale excuse of a mattress, a lantern and not a window in sight. It was easy to forget humans even existed, until he would occasionally break in with bland and tasteless meals. He spoke harshly and coldl...

Diadem of Dust (Poem-18)

"The greatest victory is that which requires no battle." - Sun Tzu This part of the forest is Much too quiet tonight To the majestic old noctuid, though, clinging on to life, It's no new sight. It rests near a pinecone, on a tall tree branch As usual, and waits for its Instincts to drive it to Claim morsels that may fit. Below its branch,  Moonlight glinting in its eyes, A young wild rat emerges from the bushes and Out of hunger, sighs. The pinecone quickly senses  Something off, however, And truly so, because it sees, staring back, A pair of red eyes quiver. The wild rat makes its way over A carelessly thrown matchbox  In dry litter, and slowly and steadily Up the tree, to the scared pinecone it walks. He triumphantly places his grown nails on The ill fated pinecone, but just over it He sees that, quite to his pleasure A little beyond him, an old moth patiently sits. Greed manifests  As he drools onto his paws, And he decides to spare the pinecone; He gently lets it...

Dead-ja Vu

"What are we, if not characters, from one story or another, playing our part, knowingly or unknowingly, willingly or unwillingly" - Sandip Khade You know how people get 'kicks' out of doing something daring, say, over-speeding on their bikes, or breaking dress codes, purposely attempting to get away with something illegal, etc.? Well, and I don't mean to sound like that guy , I've always gotten a kick out of giving to the needy; this could manifest in the form of giving money to the traffic signal dwellers, small community charity contributions, the monthly blood drive, or buying your practically broke friend his favorite energy drink when you sense a potential 'head-butt alert!' conversation vibe in the air. I groaned when I realized it's one of those days, and walked into our PG hostel's canteen area.  Most of our guy-classmates stay at this PG, since it's pretty close, and dirt cheap for its surprisingly un-pathetic living conditions. It...
