False Absolution

The Painting on the Wall

A painting couldn't mean much, right? I was sure that there was a painting on the wall. I was sure of it. Even though my parents ignored me, or looked away whenever I spoke of it, I knew that there was a painting on the wall. I even remember that it had a dark green contrast. On this green painted canvas, there were sketches of three women with curly boy-cuts. They were so real, sometimes I'd find myself staring blankly at them. Sometimes these women scared me. They looked kind of eerie. This painting, of whose existence I was so sure of, used to hang on a wall of this corridor in our old apartment. I had nightmares about the painting and often woke up from my sleep. But my parents were never there to console me. I remember it so clearly, yet my parents walk away when I mention it. My parents don't usually talk to me, though they say my name out loud sometimes and then cry about what a disappointment I am. They wouldn't give me anything to eat, so I used to sn...

EDU-CAUTION

Tick-tock, tick-tok....    Finally, it was the last exam of third grade: Computer. I was all prepared, and wasn't really nervous. It was my favorite, and I was the boy who used to get the highest marks. Uncle had also given me an extra job....I had to deliver a parcel to the invigilation teacher. I had no idea how my uncle knew her already, but, I did as I was told. And I was pretty successful, too. Uncle told me to stay cautious, and not to look too predictable, or suspicious. That was weird, but he only meant well, I knew that. The parcel was light, but a bit heavy at the same time. He told me to keep it away from any hot or heat-creating source. This is only for the safety of not damaging the parcel, I thought. So I walked down the hallway to the exam hall. Unfortunately, I was late, so the parcel would have to wait a while. So, I decided to give it when I'd get the question paper. A few minutes later, the teacher came to my bench, and passed the papers....they were HARD...

The Woman In The Crowd

Errr.... THE YEAR 2045, WHEN HUMANS WILL HAVE MEMORY CHIPS INSTEAD OF THE BRAIN.. "Behave yourself, and don't come out before we tell you to. I'll be keeping an eye on you, so don't go out of the hall."said Mom. Even though I'm 15, and way past to be told not to talk to strangers, here I was, being lectured. We were at this party-beeep-ya now I remember-beeep-sorry. So sorry about that. That happens to me a lot, mostly because my brother fiddles with my chip comartpentm ! BEEEEP-he did it again. Wait....ya he's gone. So, it was my uncle's wedding. I was just sitting in a corner as I didn't know anybody. I was waiting for the guy who brought the starters, as I was drained. I was about to run(across the hall), but I was too tired for that too. Luckily, I found something to drink.  Then, suddenly, the doors opened, and a pretty, fair, tall and what more-woman came through. She was wearing black nail polish, and high heels. Something about her was ...

He would surely find an answer to his question, but when? The king sent one of his messengers to see. And, guess what! THE EVIL ONE

Curiosity kills the cat.... Marty was a normal teenager with a not so normal family. His mom was a housewife, while his father was a scientist. Neither of his parents were successful in life. They were just living off the money earnt by their parents. But in Marty’s eyes, they were successful people. The father, Hardy, was working on a top secret project. It was situated in the attic. No one except him was allowed to enter the attic, for he was afraid that someone might mess something. However, Marty was one of those typical curious kids who, when thought of something, there was no stopping them. He planned to find out what mysterious, peculiar project his father had been working on. Obviously, he didn’t think of the consequences that would follow. That night, when his father was out on a business trip(vacation), he decided to have a small glance at the article. He slipped out the door, and into the darkness of the stairway leading up to the attic. He couldn’t stand the suspen...

Proverbs Gone WROGN !!

Using proverbs the other way round.... We all use proverbs and idioms in our life. We have them almost by heart as if we were to make a speech. Given below are some idioms gone wrong, but they, however, make complete sense!! 1. A Doctor A Day Keeps The Apples Away(An Apple A Day Keeps The Doctor Away)- This implies that if we have appointments or consultations with a doctor every day, we won't need to eat apples that often!! 2. No Gains, No Pains(No Pains, No Gains)- This one implies that if we do not own any article, we won't feel protective for it or we would not need to face the pains(or take efforts) to keep it safe!! 3. A Friend Indeed Is A Friend In Need(A Friend In Need Is A Friend Indeed)- This means that a true friend will always need you or vice versa, implying that he/she will always fall in trouble!! 4. All You Love Is Need(All You Need Is Love)- i.) This states that we all want the feeling of wanting something!! ii.) This also states that we shoul...

A Good Pair of Jeans

These days parents have this phobia about letting their children handle any responsibility, for example, take my friend, Ned. His parents don't even let him keep a pen of his own, and I'm pissed off because he takes my  pens to write!!! He tells me everyday, "I wish I had something to take care of..." and "Oh Jeff, could you lend me your things  for safekeeping?".  And the type of smart guy I am, I already have a responsibility: Keep my things away from Ned. Okay, maybe Ned isn't even capable of it, but how can we be sure without even trying? And even if he isn't capable enough, why do I have to suffer? So, when he came to my house for another shot at convincing me to allow him to keep my things for the day, I told him to ask his parents to give him one chance of proving himself. And guess what, they did. After an hour or so, an 'earnest' Ned showed up at my door, house keys sticking out of his mouth. I had to tell him how stupid and daf...

Mrs. Davis

"It all started one night, when the moon was shining brightly. It was quarter past two, when I was hiding behind the dust bin in my society. I was on the run from my short tempered Geography teacher, Mrs. Davis, as I hadn't completed my homework since a couple of weeks. It may sound weird to you, and it IS! I was thinking about a most reasonable excuse that would calm her down. "Sorry Mrs. Davis, I'll complete it right away!" or "I forgot to do it Ma'am!". Amidst all my thoughts, suddenly, I heard steps. Footsteps, coming right towards me! Tik-tok, tik-tok. Tik-tok, tik-tok. I frightfully looked in the direction of the sound. To my horror, it was her, Mrs. Davis! I knew it was her. I could recognise those high-heels anywhere. Even in school, we all used to know that it was her, just by hearing the sound of those high-heels. ,I looked up at her. Her eyes were red. Red, as if strained. I managed to mutter, "M-m-r-s. D-davis I-I forgot to...

A Glimpse into the Future

[Theme Futuristic, Tween-range] Houston , America 3000 I was in the middle of this awesome dream, when I felt pure metallic solid tug onto my shoulder. "Wake up!! Clang! Bang! Wake up!! Clang! Bang!" "Stop it you stupid bot!! It's a Saturday!!!" Then, the old pest said something I feared. "You have to work out even on weekends, Armaan!!" "Oh, please have mercy on me! And, by the way, aren't you supposed to call me Sir !?" "Initializing!!" "What do you mean initializing ?? I've told you a thousand times, now!!" "No Armaan, you have stated this only 4,653,291 times to be exact!!" "Again ' Armaan ' !!" Then, I got out of bed, drowsily, yet angrily. I looked at my clock. It was still around 4:45. "Come on, Jet! You woke me three hours earlier!!" "Sir, today is a Saturday! You have a lot of time!!!" "Well, yeah. I have all the time in the world today and tomorrow....

The Waiting Room

It was 2 hrs for my family and me to leave for Goa, for my Uncle's wedding anniversary. Mom said that we should go to the station early, so it would kill any chances of missing the train. I tried to talk some sense into her, but it was almost obvious whose opinion would be taken into consideration. Anyways, we reached the station. Mom and I thought that the station would nearly be empty, but we didn't realize that other trains were arriving at that hour. There were hordes of people running here and there to enter their trains. Dad said we could wait in the waiting room. We all agreed with his idea. Mom sat down and was absorbed by her magazine. Dad went into a corner and called up who I think was a colleague. was Then I finally sat down, only to get a glimpse of everyone. The room was quite small but had enough seating for our lot. There were about two families and two couples, excluding Mom, Dad and me. Out of the old couple, the old man who looked like he was in his ...

The Exhibition

Meena was an ordinary girl, with some extraordinary devotion towards science, mainly robotics. In the middle of an aimless day, Meena saw something that made her jump with excitement. There was a notice which said: "SCIENCE EXHIBITION". She could not believe her eyes! She continued to read the notice, and the word 'robotics' caught her eye. The exhibition was scheduled for a month later. Meena worked really hard. Her parents helped her a bit, but they didn't even know what she was making. She worked every night, almost every minute. One night, her parents decided to find out what she was making. They pretended to sleep, as that was when Meena started working. So they tiptoed along the corridor, not making a sound. They peeped into her room. But alas! She had just made a metal leg. And how angry her father was! He scolded her for wasting his time and money just on making a piece of metal. Meena just stared at him, her eyes swelling with tears. She pushed them ou...

A Treehouse in the Woods

[Theme Free-style, Tween Ranged] "Dad! Dad!”, called Abby, “ Can Peter and me go to play in the woods?”  “Yes, but make sure you come back by noon.”, said Dad.  Peter was sixteen while Abby was fourteen. Peter lost his parents in a plane crash. He saw the plane crash in front of his eyes; he had become an orphan.  Fortunately, he met Abby. She took him to her own parents and her parents accepted to take good care of him. “Did dad give us permission to go to the woods?” asked Peter curiously.  “ Yep”, chattered Abby.    In no time, they were in the woods. There was a gate, which led to the woods, and Abby had the keys to unlock it. Abby unlocked the gate and off they went into the woods. “Whoa! That was so close!”, said Peter, after Abby found him hiding in a bunch of long grass. They were playing hide and seek, and Abby was taking the den. After playing a few games, they soon got bored. It was time for lunch. They decided to go home....

The Abnormal Horror

In the year 1981, in an unexplored town, where nobody lived, an eerie incident took place.  On a new moon night, a king named John and his entourage, came to explore the town. He decided to stay there for the night and thought of building a castle over there.  At night, the villagers who had come along with the king heard strange sounds. However, they did not pay any attention and slept. In the morning, about 100 villagers were found dead. Who killed them, was the question. King John and his soldiers went to explore more.  Suddenly, they heard a loud cry for help. Help me! My king! Please help me! Something interrupted the voice. Then, they saw in that direction and could guess the cause of it all. It was a blackish - purple creature with a black fur coat. It had sharp white canines and believe me, they were extremely sharp. The sight of it was very scary. It disappeared in a second! It looked like a VAMPIRE.  The following night, again another 40 odd villag...
