Limerence (Poem-19)

WE ARE RUINING OUR PLANET!

This Diwali, say NO to firecrackers.
Find out why...

"WE are RUINING the EARTH!"

First of all, I’d like to I wish all l of my readers a very happy Diwali

Those who are reading this, you might have seen a drastic change in the rate of bursting of firecrackers this year.... it has reduced, and still reducing further... Yet, there are still some people with the mindsets that Diwali is incomplete without fireworks. Well, this has to change. We have learned this at school, and let’s make it a rule; say NO to fireworks. We all have heard about the Greenhouse effect and Global warming. Our teachers and we both equally fear the end of the world. Each of us wants to do something, but the questions are: How? When? Why? And yes, I, you, we all know the answers to these questions, but for those who don’t, let me get you a basic idea of what we’re talking about here. The Greenhouse Effect – Love to burst fireworks? Love showing off by driving cars to school? Love using aerosols? Well, guess what, they have consequences you could never have imagined.
First of all, these fireworks are no joke. Each of them does damage to our Earth’s force field, referred to as the Ozone layer. This Ozone layer is the only thing that stands in between life and destruction. But, who cares? Let’s continue to burst our colorful fireworks, right? Wrong. Let’s correct that statement: This Ozone layer is the only thing that stands in between OUR lives and OUR destruction. Now do you care? Yes, of course, you do. Yes! That’s what I’m trying to tell you. Those same colorful and shiny fireworks go straight into the sky and reveal their true colors. They explode up in the sky, which may look cool from down here, but not up there. Up there, these same fireworks explode and emit various gases that rise up and reach the Ozone layer, where they all accumulate, and eventually, lead to its’ depletion. I’m pretty sure you people are wondering why we should care about what happens to the Ozone layer, but that’ll get cleared too.
Now the Ozone layer shields the surface of the Earth from the harmful UV (ultraviolet) rays of the Sun. The Sun emits some harmless light rays, which can easily penetrate the Ozone layer. But these UV rays are rebounded back to the Sun because of the Ozone layer. Now, these fireworks were suddenly a big trend that made everyone go and spend their money. Well, no one knew what these fireworks were doing to the Ozone layer. Well, these fireworks were making cracks in the layer. So all the UV rays that were rebounded were absorbed by the Earth, which resulted in the heating up of the Earth’s crust. This phenomenon is commonly called The Greenhouse Effect. And we didn’t know and couldn’t care less. But now scientists have found out the ill effects of this, and have tried to warn us. But, we like fireworks, who cares about this out-of-the-blue Ozone thingie? Well, now, I guess you guys must have realized why. If we don’t stop the The greenhouse effect, stopping Global Warming (the heating up of the Earth’s crust) will be a lot harder. And unfortunately, fireworks are not the only things that lead to Ozone depletion. Some of the other major things are CFCs (chlorofluorocarbons), which are emitted by refrigerators, aerosols, ACs and more of the type. Cars, trucks, bikes and other vehicles release Ozone-depleting gases too. Now, to answer your questions.
How? Well, now we know what all leads to Ozone depletion. Almost EVERYTHING. So, your contribution should be to i)Stop using ACs every day, until absolutely necessary.
ii)Use solar energy which is obtained from the rays of the Sun.
iii)Stop using cars and bikes for short distances. Use cycles instead.
iv)Start thinking out of the box, and find other ways for doing work. When? Is that a question by now? Well, the answer is NOW! Any more delay will be even more painful, and it will lead to more obstacles in the future. Why? Well, I guess you’ll know if you were paying attention during this whole write-up. But the answer still is, “because we prefer to live, rather than to die.”
