Life
Maybe it's because they don't have a single answer....maybe it's because these questions are better off as questions, for the answers could be something totally unexpected.
However, that doesn't stop us from trying to find explanations for them. You see, one of the most primary characteristics of humans is "curiosity", and we just don't stop looking for an answer.
One such word, or rather question, has been one of the most challenging of them all.
Life.
What really is the meaning of life? One may say, "to exist in this world". Well, some entities that "exist in this world" are labelled as non-living ones...to explain that, people say that they cannot carry out the basic functions of life. But...what exactly defines these functions, because these objects still continue to exist.
Lets try and dive deeper into this....from the very beginning of our planet.
However, have you ever wondered about just how much we don't know? From being collectively homeless, less intelligent and having absolutely no means of communication, just how exactly have we managed to reach where we are today? And to think that it all started from us being like any other animal species, another question that arises is, will the other animals also turn out to be like us?
Why wouldn't they?
What would happen if they did?
I'll cover that outcome, and many more in the next parts of this mini-series...
Lets come back to the topic of life...we know that human lives start from the fertilization of egg cells. The eggs then get nutrients from the mother, and you know the rest. However, when exactly, in this entire process does the soul actually enter the body? Does the soul even exist?
If we do have a soul inside us, why do we need a complex organ system? Why can't the entity just....exist? And if we are the souls, why do we die....even when we don't want to. In fact, how can damage caused to an organ kill off the soul...why can't the soul just heal it up?
Another question that arises is...if the soul is a holy entity, why do we humans commit crimes? Do we have a bad side too? Can this side take over us? And if we do have souls, why are our memories limited? If we really are souls, why don't we know everything about ourselves?
Are our actions pre-set? Is our destiny already written?
What exactly is our purpose...some souls don't even manage to live until the age of a single human year...what purpose have they fulfilled? Or the case-closer could simply be that we don't have purposes...but then...
No matter how long one lives, you make a definite impact in the world and the entities around you. Whether it is what you do in your waking life, or whether it is by the impact of your death; you do leave a mark in the world. By this assumption, every single person has a purpose, whether they know it or not.
Which means there's a lot more to you, than even you know about.
Well, how do you find this purpose? And what happens once you do? Well, I don't think anyone will ever know, unless the Creator itself comes and tells you, but that doesn't stop me from putting forward my theory.
According to me, your purpose is more or less entirely related to whatever you do best, or what you love doing the most. As, if you think about it, that's the one thing you have the most control over, which means in your control, you could impact the world the most with it. In a positive way or not, that's up to you.
One may ask, what after that? What after you're done with your purpose? What after you're done impacting the world with your "purpose"? Well, keep finding more. Don't settle! Many people keep saying that life is like a video game, and it makes sense too. You have challenges, they don't always end up going smoothly, but eventually you conquer the obstacles and finish the game. However, in these scenarios, people delete the game. Applying that to life would mean that your life is over the second you finish your purpose.
I just can't accept that. I can't accept that you are obliged to just resign from all the things you could do just because you're done with one game. I don't believe life is a game.
I think life is more like the playstore.
In life you face obstacles, but you don't wait to die the second you overcome them...you look for more goals. You find more challenges, and keep achieving as many wins as possible until the Universe decides that your time is up, just the way your parents take the phone away from you when your screen-time is up.
Coming back to our first question; the definition of life. So what exactly is life? We have just concluded that in life, you interact with people, animals, and everything around you, leading to a certain impact on some, if not each one of them. While doing this you form friends, discover new things, learn new concepts, make memories, fulfill your purpose, overcome obstacles and fight your way to achieve success.
According to me, the very opportunity, the very medium through which anyone can take a shot at doing all of that, the chance that the universe bestows upon you to experience this wild journey....
...that's life.

This has been one of my most unique posts on this blog. Its not a story, its not a poem and neither is it an article. Yet its my perspective at telling you my theories about our story, trying to be as informative as possible and getting to conclusions that sound rather poetic.
If you'd like reading such posts in the future, along with my usual stories, poems and articles, please do let me know in the comment section below. Also let me know your views on the whole concept, as nobody really knows the meaning of anything in life.
And that's the beauty of it.
-Armaan Kothare
Very profound!
ReplyDeleteAt an age where kids indulge in lighter flair, I am left with nothing but awe for your philosophical bent... Keep penning, sounds interesting and intriguing!
By the way, I sincerely find life to be fun and joy...
Bless you in your novel genre of expression.!!!
Thank you for reading, and I'm glad you liked the new genre!
DeleteAnd that's a great way to look at it!
Keep reading :D
Really at this year without an experience of a grown up you think and able to pen your thoughts is awesome. Yes whatever u said is so true but truly nobody can define life as everything is abstract unknown .
ReplyDeleteBut good efforts keep thinking andconveyning ur ideas
Absolutely true! Glad you liked reading the post, and will continue to explore this genre more!!
DeleteThanks for reading :D
Different from your usual stories. You have many questions here on life, as you have mentioned in the begining of your write up, we all are curious. Life is beautiful, simple and worth living!! And then.. life is good :)
ReplyDeleteInteresting thoughts :)... Keep exploring and writing 👍
Thanks for your review!! I'm glad you liked the new genre, and I agree; there's much more to life than meets the eye, and it's an experience to never forget...
Delete(Mostly because you literally can't forget it...)
Thanks for reading :D
Interesting and profound article. Increase your reading about some of the philosophical scriptures - such as Garuda Purana - I believe you may find some answers to a few of your questions. I've heard this from Prafull kaka first hand... But wasn't able to digest quite a bit of what he said at the time !!
ReplyDeleteBut read more books on self help - spirituality - you'll probably find your answers or they might lead you to more profound questions !!
Keep writing !!
I'm glad you found the post interesting, and sure, I will refer to these sources to find the answers, staying very true to my human roots :D
DeleteThank you for your suggestions and thanks for reading too!
Life is what you make it it. The most beautiful part is the opportunities are endless. I'd turn your question around and ask: what would you like to make of your life. There is no right or wrong answer here because it's a decision that you keep making over and over.
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed you are able to express this thought. Stay hungry and stay foolish. Keep asking the questions!
You're right.. Life is exactly what we make it in our minds, it all depends on how you look at it! And the meaning isn't a theory...its more of an experience.
DeleteThank you for commenting your views, and I hope you liked this post as I'm slightly new to this genre :D

Armaan,
ReplyDeleteThese are words and thoughts of a much older person. In fact, even in my late 60s, I have never thought of Life and it's multi-faceted imponderables. So you are very unique to ponder thus at such a tender age.
While you delve on questions of life and it's various definition, I hope you are not neglecting day to day activities of your youth.
Meaning of life must come from living normal life and not from the way our sadhus and saints have been doing since times immemorial.
I get the feeling that 80-90 % of your write up is based on questions and only 10-20 % to the answers.
Try to make that 40/60 or so.
Truly, it's impressive for someone of your age group to be writing like this.
Ranjit Singh
will surely try to make these changes in my upcoming posts! and you are right, though to each their own..
Deletethanks for giving me your feedback, and thanks for reading this post!
hope you liked it :)
Deep thoughts.
ReplyDeleteNicely articulated. However, also think of life as a bundle of energy that we are emitting through the journey of it. This is a question that will have many perspectives and person to person the definition of life will change. Someone who is spiritual may give a different answer than a person who is more materialistic. And both are right for themselves.
I feel, this is a good question to ask and there's no right or wrong answer. But the beauty of this question is the same person will give different answer at different crossroads / juncture of the life. So keep asking and see if the answer is changing for yourself. Keep writing
you're correct; there is no one definition of life, and everyone has a different theory or experience linked with it....that's what makes it so exceptionally remarkable, as every single answer is correct!
Deletethanks for your views, and thank you for reading :D
Very profound thoughts at your age. Very well articulated as well. I wish that you retain this philosophical bent of mind as you grow up and experience life in its entirety.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion 'Life' simply means a functioning system but when looked at from a spiritual perspective it means a sum total of all the consciously and sub consciously collected stimuli, feelings and reactions to our surroundings.
Each of us ultimately will have to search for these answers and each one will have a different perspective as there is no one correct point of view or explanation.
Also, I feel that there could two schools of thought on our actions and their impact. One school of thought is that everything is preordained and another one believes is randomness of events.
You have really looked deeply at purpose in life - I feel it should be to make the most of it. Each one of us will usually find our calling in life.
My advice - Develop a good EQ ( emotional quotient) I have always believed that a person with a higher EQ
has a more fullfilling life than a person with a high IQ. God bless you, look forward to the next chapter.
PS - May be it is too early for you, but you could look up the book called SIDDHARTHA by Herman Hesse as part of your journey into understanding life.
those are great views and that's a great theory! however to this particular question, there is no specific answer...every single perspective is correct!
Deleteand you are right, one should make the most of it....
sure! I will definitely try to read the book!
thanks for stating your views, and thanks for reading :D

ReplyDeleteOh okay! Happy that you took the time to check it out and put down your own perspective of looking at it....thanks for reading and I hope you liked the post :)
DeleteSuch a profound and thoughtful read, with a hint of spirituality. The answers you are looking for, probably the ones we all look for at some point may mean different things to most of us. But the attainment of these answers is the true quest. As humans we always see life as three dimensional, but the laws of physics do mention a fourth dimension which is the only one we are in constant touch with - reality. What is real and what isn’t is determined by mind, the body, and the inner realm, but more in that later. I’d love to read more when the part 2 is out. Great work Armaan!
ReplyDeletethat is correct! Thank you for stating your views and I'm happy that you liked this post :)
Deletethanks for reading, and the next post will be written soon !
Lovely post Armaan. Very deep and thought provoking. Have you read Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari. he touches upon some very similar topics. You might like it.
ReplyDeleteThe Soul is a metaphysical construct, it still needs a physical vehicle to exist within. Whereas thinking of it as holy or unholy again ascribes it with properties that are not necessarily attributable to it. The soul as a construct may exist outside the understanding of our mortal selves. Its workings, its existence may be there for a completely different purpose.
Maybe what we deem as evil or good are different from how the soul views it. There could be higher level factors at play here that govern the soul.. any way I'm rambling here.
All in all a very thought provoking post. Keep at it..
no, i haven't read it yet, but i definitely will give it a read soon...
Deleteand you're right, it all depends on how we look at the world as a whole, and everyone has a unique and different perspective towards it...
thank you for stating your views, and thanks for reading :D
