A Sinister Temptation

He's gaping, and he's waiting.... In the little neighborhood of Griffin Street, the children are told not to go out of their house after 6pm.  It is because of the local folklore about a stranger, a power or a creature. It is an unwelcome entity. It is said that the creature has a liking for kids. Their tender skin, their innocent souls and confused self's are what lure the creature to consume them. According to the stories so told, the creature eats their bodies and fuses their souls into him, making him stronger. There haven't been any recorded sightings of the creature.  Mainly because no adults have seen the creature, and no kids have survived to tell the tale. However, the attacks of the creature haven't been recorded in the past two years, since the curfew 6pm was made mandatory. Children didn't listen at first, but they soon obliged, as they started to notice some of their dear friends missing. Their bodies were never found, just few drops of their innoce...

Break Through the Net (Poem-2)

A poem written on the Covid-19 pandemic... Break Through the Net Hard times have come by Where all have to stay inside, But fear not, as this won't be for long It will pass just as quick, if we all stand strong. But until then we all must stay At home, be it night or day For if you  do catch this disease Your pleasant life will momentarily cease. This virus is a terrible pest It makes each person a victim, a nest But it affects only people who Don't wear a mask, even though they're told to. Your family's fate depends on what you do Embrace the virus, or shield your family and you For if you want to save your kin Let's start with the steps to win. Step one, wear a mask at all times As all outside particles are infected mines And don't leave your home unless The necessities at home are really less. Step two, maintain your distance With everyone, even your family, for instance This will keep you out of reach Of the particles causing Covid-19. Step three, wash your...

Trees, While They're Still Here

A short story that could be our future, if we don't.... I t was a bright sunny morning, perfect for the kids to look at some remarkable antiques and old stuff owned by people in the early 20th century. They always found creatures like dogs, cats and others pretty fascinating, since they were nowhere to be seen nowadays. Other things were planes and ships, which were used for "travelling" according to some historians. Ships fascinated them the most, as the people still hadn't found out how humans used them. Like there are some theories that "water" was used as a medium of transport, but they couldn't be sure, as there was so little of it. The young guide took the school kids through the gates of the National Museum. She asked them their names, to which the eldest said - "I'm US234, survivor from the Americas. This is IN2245, from south India and that is BZ567 from Brazil. We would like to go down the Greens Sector." They followed her t...

The Man Who Was Grim

There was once a man who was grim Who decided to go for a swim,  He stepped into the pool,  But he was a fool,   For he didn't know how to swim!

A Jog Through The Woods (Poem-1)

They're calling you.... A Jog Through The Woods I put on my shoes, got out of the house Any later I wouldn’t move Closed the door and saw the scurrying mouse Scuttling over to the woods. I made my way into the coverts Went past through the fog I was busy that rainy night But just had time for a jog. I ventured deeper through the woods, Would have run if I could When I heard a quaint voice call, “Turn back, you really should.” I stopped jogging, turned around But, saw no one at all All these days when I’d ever jogged I’d never heard a call. I was in two minds whether to continue Or to go back home Had a lot of work to do  So, I turned back for home. Heard lotta voices on the way, They echoed off the logs of wood Whose cries they were, I still don't know, I’d heard on my jog through the woods.

WE ARE RUINING OUR PLANET!

This Diwali, say NO to firecrackers.  Find out why... "WE are RUINING the EARTH! "                                      First of all, I’d like to I wish all l of my readers a very happy Diwali .  Those who are reading this, you might have seen a drastic change in the rate of bursting of firecrackers this year.... it has reduced, and still reducing further...   Yet, there are still some people with the mindsets that Diwali is incomplete without fireworks. Well, this has to change. We have learned this at school, and let’s make it a rule; say NO to fireworks. We all have heard about the Greenhouse effect and Global warming. Our teachers and we both equally fear the end of the world. Each of us wants to do something, but the questions are: How? When? Why? And yes, I, you, we all know the answers to these questions, but for those who don’t, let me get you a basic idea of what we...

The Painting on the Wall

A painting couldn't mean much, right? I was sure that there was a painting on the wall. I was sure of it. Even though my parents ignored me, or looked away whenever I spoke of it, I knew that there was a painting on the wall. I even remember that it had a dark green contrast. On this green painted canvas, there were sketches of three women with curly boy-cuts. They were so real, sometimes I'd find myself staring blankly at them. Sometimes these women scared me. They looked kind of eerie. This painting, of whose existence I was so sure of, used to hang on a wall of this corridor in our old apartment. I had nightmares about the painting and often woke up from my sleep. But my parents were never there to console me. I remember it so clearly, yet my parents walk away when I mention it. My parents don't usually talk to me, though they say my name out loud sometimes and then cry about what a disappointment I am. They wouldn't give me anything to eat, so I used to sn...

EDU-CAUTION

Tick-tock, tick-tok....    Finally, it was the last exam of third grade: Computer. I was all prepared, and wasn't really nervous. It was my favorite, and I was the boy who used to get the highest marks. Uncle had also given me an extra job....I had to deliver a parcel to the invigilation teacher. I had no idea how my uncle knew her already, but, I did as I was told. And I was pretty successful, too. Uncle told me to stay cautious, and not to look too predictable, or suspicious. That was weird, but he only meant well, I knew that. The parcel was light, but a bit heavy at the same time. He told me to keep it away from any hot or heat-creating source. This is only for the safety of not damaging the parcel, I thought. So I walked down the hallway to the exam hall. Unfortunately, I was late, so the parcel would have to wait a while. So, I decided to give it when I'd get the question paper. A few minutes later, the teacher came to my bench, and passed the papers....they were HARD...

The Woman In The Crowd

Errr.... THE YEAR 2045, WHEN HUMANS WILL HAVE MEMORY CHIPS INSTEAD OF THE BRAIN.. "Behave yourself, and don't come out before we tell you to. I'll be keeping an eye on you, so don't go out of the hall."said Mom. Even though I'm 15, and way past to be told not to talk to strangers, here I was, being lectured. We were at this party-beeep-ya now I remember-beeep-sorry. So sorry about that. That happens to me a lot, mostly because my brother fiddles with my chip comartpentm ! BEEEEP-he did it again. Wait....ya he's gone. So, it was my uncle's wedding. I was just sitting in a corner as I didn't know anybody. I was waiting for the guy who brought the starters, as I was drained. I was about to run(across the hall), but I was too tired for that too. Luckily, I found something to drink.  Then, suddenly, the doors opened, and a pretty, fair, tall and what more-woman came through. She was wearing black nail polish, and high heels. Something about her was ...
